Team Sheridan on Spring Break
Jump for joy Team Sheridan headed down for our annual trip to Ft. Myers Beach Florida for spring break. We braved the 18 hour trip in the van just to spend a week on the beach, but it's definitely worth it. The kids were great in the car. We left our house at 1am in the morning on Good Friday and drove straight thru to Ft. Myers. We stayed one night at a hotel before heading to our condo on the beach on Saturday. Most the week was spent between the beach and the pool relaxing and playing.
My parents came with us too. We usually spend spring break with them. The kids love to have them and so do we. It is nice to spend time with them and it's nice to have extra adults to help with the kids. Ken and my dad fish together as well. They rented their own unit in the same condos we stayed at so we were very close to each other.
This is our view from our room. It was a one bedroom unit, but we made it work. I tried getting a two bedroom, but since it's spring break they are very hard to come by. The umbrellas on the beach is where we hang out for the day. We tend to have quite a set up on the beach, but it's great to have some shade as we are all on the light skinned side and can't take too much sun.
Of course no vacation for us wouldn't be complete without sunset pictures. I think I have my Christmas card picture already. Even though Noah thought his shorts looked like a picnic table cloth I thought they were so cute and they look great on the beach.
A couple mornings Ken, my Dad (Mike) and Noah went fishing early at Lover's Key. It's a state park down the road from our condo. They named themselves Hook (Ken) Line (Noah) and Watcher (Grandpa Mike). Ken hooked the fish and Noah pulled them in. They are sea trout and very good eating. We ate these that night fresh with some steak. Yum!! The guys didn't end up catching any other fish, but they did see a shark a couple of times. Yikes! That was enough for Noah to get out of the water and start making sand castles on the beach.
Noah looks like he is going to fly away, but really the were easy to fly.

These pictures are in reverse order. Easter Sunday was first and here are the kids in their Florida Easter Church clothes. We go to Church of the Ascension on the beach. It aways cracks me up because the ushers male and female wear tuxedos and they are all really old. The reader looks a lot like Ken's Uncle Joe. It was pretty packed in there and a really nice Easter Mass. I had to take a picture of the kids with Mary outside the church as she looked so beautiful with the tropical flowers. The Easter bunny brought buckets, shovels, and pool toys as well as some candy and some spending cash for souvenirs.
Here's Katie with her kite. On a particular windy day her kite got a way from her. She and Ken chased it down the beach. It stopped when it hit a building and they got it back. Phew!

Although on the Gulf side of Florida there aren't many big waves it's fun to "surf" the mini waves. Katie liked it a lot. Nathan liked to play and relax and feed the egret shrimp and minnows.
I can't help myself with these pictures of sunset and matching outfits. I wonder how many more years I'm going to be able to get away with it! LOL
Grandpa Mike and Grandma Sue bought these kites for Easter for the kids. Nathan had the Shark, Noah had the Dragon, and Katie's was a Parrot. The were really nice and lots of people asked where they got them. They got them at Costco in Michigan in case you were wondering.

Weather was awesome all week with sun and 80's. Only one day was a little cooler, but still hot in the sun and we went shopping on Sanibel Island that day and out to lunch. It's great to do these family trips they are a much needed break from the every day hustle and bustle and stress. We have gone to Ft. Myers beach so many times it is hard to imagine a year without it. But alas we are home now and the weather is very spring like(read raining) and I have a mountain of laundry to do and have to go back to work and am suffering from post vacation depression. But...life will go on and I will be looking at our pictures. Until next year ah....

Happy "Green" Day!!!
Ahh... I woke up this morning, it's sunny, it's going to be 50 degrees, it's St. Patrick's day and then I watched this clip on the Today show.

These ladies are awesome. I'm so happy people are starting to acknowledge that being "green" is very important and it's doing God's work. I believe that "Right to Life" doesn't just mean unborn babies, it's everyone, every living thing animal or vegetable. It's time for people to help stop Global Warming. Every time I hear about Global Warming I really get stressed. I feel so helpless that whatever I do won't make a difference unless a lot of people are doing things as well or the government starts to do it's part too. But, I remind myself that every little bit does make a difference and eventually it will spread to other people and I keep trying.
Don't get me wrong I'm not perfect with this going green stuff, but I have been making changes for my family. Some things I do is recycle everything that I can. Just ask Ken, I will dig stuff out of the trash to put it in the recycle. I have plugged a couple of TVs we have that don't use that much into a power strip and we turn that power strip off when we are not at home and when we go to bed. Did you know that TVs are using electricity even when they are turned off? I also power down my computer every night and now I have been putting it sleep mode when I'm not using it. My thermostat is turned to a chilly 65 degrees when we are not at home during the day and when we sleep at night it's 68. I use 100% recycled paper in my printer at home. It's not that perfect bright white color, but it looks pretty good. I have set up my bills and bank statements to get "paperless" statements so we are not wasting all that extra paper. Ken's paychecks are also "paperless" he can go online to see his pay stub and the money is direct deposited into our account every week. Ken ordered his new Honda Civic Hybrid that boasts at getting 50 miles per gallon. Since he drives quite far everyday to work we are hoping to see a savings at the pump soon. I have signed up to reduce junk mail at Greendimes.com and catalogchoice.org can get rid of all those catalogs your receive. Try out the rechargeable batteries. They are great no waste and pay for themselves in no time.
So get on board the "Green Train" people. It's the right thing to do. And being green also means having more green dollars in your pocket. It's Win-Win!!

Team Sheridan Snowed In
Ahh.. Mother Nature's revenge on all my complaining that the weather people have not got it right and we never get snow here. Not to mention every time I laugh that the city dumps 10 lbs of salt in my cul de sac every time we get a flurry. We got dumped on Friday and all day Saturday and now I'm literally snowed in. I didn't get any mail yesterday and now my Sunday paper is not here either. There is about a foot of snow in my cul de sac. No plow has touched my cul de sac. My van is way too low to the ground for me to drive out of here. I shoveled about two feet of snow to clear a path from my van in the garage to my street only to wake up this morning to see that no plow has come to get me out of here. We are running out of good food to eat and the kids are getting bored. Someone come help us! LOL!

Sleding
We finally went sleding at the hill at the park near our house. There wasn't a lot of snow, but just enough and it was fun. Nathan is now able to go by himself which makes it easier.

I had to take a picture of this lady who was dressed in a full length fur coat with a fur hat do go sleding???? I guess I was "underdressed" for the occasion??

We went for our annual ice fishing trip to the cabin this weekend. The kids have President's day off from school so it makes for a perfect long weekend thing to do. Usually we spend a day or two ice fishing on Rollway and the kids catch a lot of fish. This year however, we spent one morning on Ryan lake and only Nathan and Brett caught one fish each. The cabin has more snow than we have ever seen up there. It was like walking into Narnia for our kids. The most snow we get in Ohio is about 2 inches at a time and everyone panics. It was so fun for our kids to enjoy that much snow. The next day was a major ice storm. It rained all day and made the roads a sheet of ice. We still had fun enjoying the new cabin and we brought movies and our PS2 for some inside fun. It was just good to have a relaxing weekend away from home and to see our families.
